Basics on Microsoft Power BI Mobile

As you are comfortable with Microsoft Power BI Desktop and Power BI Service, we can now move to Power BI Mobile.

We know that we can create the reports on Desktop Power BI.  Create and view the Report Dashboard on Power BI Service. And, on Mobile Power BI we can view and interact with the report Dashboards.

Power BI MobileThere are apps for all kind of Mobile and tablet. Let it be iOS (iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, or Apple Watch), Android phone or tablet, or Windows 10 device.


In the Mobile App, you can avail all your shared reports.

In this post, we will discuss the basic steps of using Power BI on your mobile device.

Prerequisite – Microsoft Power BI Account and App installed in the Mobile phone.

→ Install the Power BI Application

→ Sign in with your Device

→ Viewing Dashboard in Mobile App

→ Cleaning Up unnecessary report


Install the Power BI Application and Login in Power BI Mobile

Install the mobile app from the application store and sign in with your login credentials. The login ids and password are same as of the Powe BI Service in the browser.


Viewing Dashboard in Power BI Mobile App 

Steps to look at the report dashboard –


Tap on the main navigation button → Tap on Workspace → Tap on My Workspace → Select the Report you want to interact with.


If you want to get a landscape view then simply tap on the iconPower BI Mobile in the report for a better and bigger view.

If you want to share the report from Mobile Power BI app, then find the share button at the upper right corner of the App.


Tap Share→ Fill Email Address/ Addresses → Tap Send.

Quick Overview on Power BI Service

This is the web-based version of Power BI on which we can share our reports made on Power BI Desktop. This is one of the most used SaaS (Software as a Service) application for business analytics. In order to use this online service, we must have an account at For the first time when you sign in to your Power BI account, you will find a dashboard. On the dashboard, we will find the applications and tools that we need to make the visualization perfect.

Getting the Dataset in Power BI Service

Now, the next step after sign-in is to get some data inside your dashboard. In order to insert Data, we have four default option. These are –

Power BI Service

  • Get the Data from previously uploaded content from your Colleague
  • Discover Data from online services like – Google Analytics, JIRA, Microsoft Azure, Github and many more
  • Upload an Excel file from your local computer in Power BI Service dashboard
  • Get the Dataset from the Database you are using through getting Database in Microsoft Power BI Service.

Exploring the Dataset in Power BI Service

Now, we have the Dataset with us, we are ready to explore the Data and segregate it in our own terms. Inside the Microsoft Power BI Service Dashboard, we can arrange the Dataset according to our need.

We can add/remove rows and columns in the Data table inside Microsoft Power BI Service. We can merge two Dataset as per our report requirements. In this step, we work on the Data and make it our own.


Making report and Dashboard in the Microsoft Power BI Service 

As we have our required Dataset with us, we are now ready to move to the next step. That is to create our visualization report and then making the report dashboard.Microsoft Power BI Service

In this stage, we make individual visualizations of the dataset separately as per the report need. After the data visualization is done we merge the individual reports in one page and make the report dashboard as shown in the image. To do this simply drag the data item fields in the canvas and your dashboard report will be ready instantly.


Sharing the report and track the new content in Microsoft Power BI Service

Now we are ready to showcase our report dashboard to our client and colleague. In order to share a specific report follow the following simple steps.

File → Publish to Web → Get unique sharing code to share over Email or publishing shortcode in a webpage.

How to clean Data and Create a Model in Power BI Desktop?

This step is all about cleaning your Data according to your report need. Here you can transform and clean the data type so that it fits into your requirement.

To make our work simple and more efficient we have the inbuilt Query Editor which records our every step.

Once you have cleaned your data then the data source is called a Data Model. Now next step is to make the Visualization of the Data Model.


How to use the Data Model to create Visuals in Power BI Desktop?

Now we have our Data Model, we can proceed to make the visual representation of the Data.

Just Drag the Data field into the report Canvas that you want to create visuals. There are a number of visuals you can choose from in Power BI Desktop.

You can also change the visuals as per your report need and save the visuals in new files.

Now as our visuals are ready we can move to the next step


To create a report from the Visuals in Power BI Desktop?

The collection of Visuals is called a Report. In Power BI we often combine the visuals of same intentions in one compilation.

It also depends on what you want to input in your Power BI report. According to your specification combine the visuals and your report is ready to go.

Now let’s move to the last step-


How to share the Report with colleague and Clients?

Once the report is complete now we can directly publish the report inside the desktop Application only. Just Click on the Publish button tab in Power BI Desktop and you are live on a shot.

You can then use your Power BI account to share the report to the concerned people in your workgroup.
